マウスピースの旅 vol.11

私が現在所持しているサックスは3種類。

KG'sではアルトとテナーを使っているが、参加しているバンドに応じて使う組み合わせを変えている。
高い音の順でソプラノサックス、アルトサックス、そしてテナーサックスだ。

テナーサックスという存在。
アルトしか吹いたことのない24歳当時の私にとって、テナーは「他人の楽器」というイメージだった。
今でこそ世の中におけるテナーの存在意義が理解できるが、当時は吹奏楽ぐらいでしか見たことのないので、つまらなさそうな楽器に写っていた。

ホンマどうでもいい話しだが、吹奏楽においてサックスパートって、ちょっと面白い。
吹奏楽の各楽器は同じ楽器を持つもの同士で練習することが多い（俗にいうパート練習、略して“パー練”）のだが、サックスパートはアルト(高音楽器)、テナー(中低音楽器)、バリトン(低音楽器)が一緒に練習する事はほとんどない。
何故なら、この3つの楽器は吹奏楽における役割があまりにも違いすぎるからだ。
3つの楽器で演奏すると単純にアンサンブルになってしまう。
他の楽器のパート練習と言えば、同じフレーズをみんなで吹くことによって吹くタイミングや表現方法を合わせたり、ピッチ(音程)を揃えたりする。


話しをグイッと戻すが、オールディーズでテナーサックスが必要となった私は、丁度その頃、長年結婚するだろうなと思っていた彼女と別れた後だったので、貯めていたお金でテナーを購入することにした。
(どう買おうが知ったこっちゃないですなぁ...)
